Basics are Best

I think sometimes people love to create their own sob story...just to give themselves something to talk about. It's like they purposely try to make things hard.

Here are 7 things you can do every day to make your life A LOT smoother...

1. Spend more time with customers. The more time I spend with the customer, the less anxious, emotional or up/down I feel. It reminds me why I'm here and what I need to get done.

2. Be a planner. Where are you in 25 years? 5 years? 1 year? 1 month? 1 week? 1 day? 1 hour?

3. Do hard things - the harder things are the less people will do them. Showing up every day with a smile is hard...that's why most people don't do it. Consistently producing quality content is hard, that's why most people don't do it.

4. Read everyday - develop the skill of reading. I cannot tell you the benefit this has provided in my life. I was never a 'reader'...until I was. Find a method that works for you (audio, kindle, paperback) and work at 20 pages per day. That will mean a book every 10-12 days! Which will mean 20 or so books a year...

5. Get good at the BASICS. The above are basics. Exercising is basic. Drinking more water is basic. Resting, sleeping and moving is basic. Listening to the customer is basic. Asking how you can help is basic. While most are waiting around for the next killer online client generation strategy, you can be killing it with the basics and actually doing the work.

6. Build confidence in others. I just got done reading my friend/tormentor Josh Phegan's book where he mentions a few things that our job as coaches is to be Chief Confidence Builders...I love that.

7. 80% is good enough...Ship it. Stop waiting for perfection. Ship it, get feedback, refine it and work at making it better each and every time. The power is not in perfection from the start it's from constant improvement and innovation over the long haul.

My book "Why Wait To Be Great" is days ways from being released (just getting approval for a foreword from someone pretty darn awesome) and will feature everything I've learned from the last 3 years of hardcore growth, but also the last 3 decades of life.

I would love to have my crew of Young Leaders be among the first to get a copy, so will update you shortly on how you can get your hands on one.
