You can learn ANY Skill (...I promise)

A common comment I hear is  "I can't do X because I'm not good enough"  or "Oh I couldn't do that...I don't have the experience" (both of which I have used in the past). And the truth is, you're most likely right.

You aren't good enough, and you don't have the skills

....YET.

And there's a reason.

Because you have never spent the hours, days, months or years crafting your skills to actually be good at it.

You haven't yet paid the price required.   So why would the universe reward you?

The truth is, everything you currently know, do and fear, is actually learned.

When we are babies, we only fear two things: 1. Loud noises 2. Falling

Everything else is learned along the way.

Take for example the following:

  • When you were a baby, you had to have someone feed you.  That is, until you LEARNED the motor skills required to pick up a fork, guide it to your own mouth and then swallow.
  • When you got your first bike, you most likely had a crash.  That is, until you LEARNED the speed & balance required to stay upright, and also, most importantly, how to stop! (which I bet you learned the hard way like we all did)
  • And when you first started writing and drawing, you most likely were terrible.  That is, until you LEARNED how much pressure to use, the motor pattern required to draw the letters and shapes, and the control to start and stop where you wanted.

Swimming, driving a car, typing on a keyboard, using a smart phone...and the list goes on.

Literally every single thing you do in your every day life, has been learned in some way, shape or form.  Sometimes very naturally, other times it takes hard work and commitment.

And same goes for fear, shame and guilt.  85% of people have had an event occur which has had a shame response so dramatic, that they've given up on that task since.  In their heads, once it happened, they gave up. "I'm hopeless.  I should just stick to what I'm good at!"

But please don't let that stop you.  Victims use that mindset.  It helps keep them play at a level of comfort.  It tricks them into the illusion that they're 'safe'.

That way they never get seen.  They can never be shut down, criticised or hurt.

But victims never make it.  Victims stay small and have very little impact in the world.

If you want to step out of those shoes, I'm here to tell you, you can.

But it takes effort.  It is hard. It will suck at times and you will feel like giving up.

I know this because I am constantly working on myself and experience these difficulties daily. My desire to learn and teach others means I want to master something new as soon as possible.  But if I let you know the amount of times I wanted to give up, simply get a job, and just cruise through life...you would actually laugh (trust me, doing that would be a lot easier).

But I have a vision.  This vision fuels my plan, and my plan fuels my daily actions.

The best thing you can do, is create the same.

Discover your vision, create a plan and set forth into daily actions towards that plan.

Use the rule of 5.  This states that every day, perform 5 actions towards your plan.

5 things per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year (and even if you took weekends off, using this simple principle, you will be light years ahead of most people).

And remember, it's not the size of the actions that count, it's the consistency.

This is how the world's best learn, develop and create MASSIVE impact.

Join the next level of leaders and watch what happens.

Stop playing small!

5 More Ways to Get the Edge

Want the edge, this is a good start....! 1) Read Everyday. (95% of people never finish a non fiction book after school. Elevate yourself by reading every day. 15 mins per day = 12 books per year. 30 mins per day = 25 books per year. 60 mins per day = Over 60 books per year!)

2) Remove all Newspapers and TV news from your life. (It's fear mongering BS.  That is all.)

3) Ask for Feedback. (We don't know what we don't know, so ask for honest feedback...and don't be cranky with the answers. Use it as fuel to get better)

4) Learn to Say No. (A lot of the time, success isn't about what you say yes to, it's about what you say no to. Stop pleasing everyone and put yourself first)

5) Reward Yourself. (What's the point in doing all of this if you don't reward yourself? You MUST reward yourself with things that will fuel

Why I Left Richard Branson Off My Vision Board

There is a concept amongst many of the self help and success authors that I like to read and it is called 'Vision Boarding'. Basically what you do is take a ton of pictures relating to what you want in your life, (eg, expensive cars, watches, money, books, mentors etc) print them off and place them on a 'board' so you can see what it would look like.

You then couple this with some visualisation exercises and the idea is to have these things be drawn into your life through raising your awareness about them, and literally imagining yourself with the items or surrounded by these people.

Now this post does not explore the legitimacy of these things, and contrary to popular belief, every single one of the authors emphasises how you actually have to work (not just wish), so before you click away and think this is just another hokey scheme to sell more online programs, open your mind for just a second and just run with it.

So there I was last Sunday night (Sunday I tend to dedicate a large portion of the day to personal and professional development), busy printing off various pictures of things I like, books that have influenced me, mentors I want to meet/spend more time with and more.

I had around 80 pictures printed off actually.

Now I'm not a freak, but I do take things to the next level. It's not enough to just put a picture of Tony Robbins and I next to each other, or Tim Ferriss and I smashing  a bro-shake, I need to be IN THE PICTURES.

As I sat there listening to an audio program, I was methodically cutting out all the pictures, ready to stick them how I pleased on my board.

Of the 80 or so pictures, 1 didn't make it.  As you might have guessed from the title it was Sir Richard Branson.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think Richard Branson has done some absolutely phenomenal things and is one of the most creative and action oriented people out there....but the truth is, he personally hasn't had any direct effect on my life.

Yes I've been positively affected by his products and I love his attitude, but I think many business owners and operators (especially those with entrepreneurial tendencies), feel as though they must aspire to this. That Richard Branson, Steve Jobs and Elon Mosk are the epitome of entrepreneurs.

However, I want to share with you my views.  Again, all of the above have done fantastic things for our world, and ironically I type this on one of Steve Job's very creations, but true creatives don't need a title, they just do.  They simply create for the love of creating.

They don't need to constantly post pictures of token global entrepreneurs and idolise them for no other reason than it is the done thing.

Instead, what I encourage you to do is fill your vision board and life with those who you truly want to meet.  Those who you know have had a profound impact on YOU. This is a lot more fulfilling and if you are truly authentic throughout this process, there is a much higher chance of this coming to fruition.

Enjoy your week and thanks for reading.
