True Leadership While Shopping

This afternoon while looking for couches for my new place I am moving into this weekend, I happened to walk into one furniture store, where a lady asked if she could help me with anything? I showed her what I liked and asked how long it would take to get this one particular model I liked delivered? She told me if its in stock, the warehouse would ship down from Sydney tomorrow as it would be a Wednesday.

If it wasn't in stock, it could be longer. She went away to check the database.

She came back and informed me that the one on the floor was the last one, but also said they have a few other options.

Pretty standard so far...

So she showed me a different model, and explained this would suit an apartment better because the model I liked was a 'one piece' and spanned 2850mm long, with the problem being that most apartment lifts are 2150mm she told me and would not fit.

She then explained all different colours, styles and combinations other couches in my taste came in, and how some were 'two pieces' that connected together. (Much more suitable for lifts and apartment moving).

Now, check it out.

She listened to what her prospective customer wanted.

She had knowledge of what stock was where and what options it came in (including leg options, arm options, fabric styles and more)

In fact she knew so much about couches, I joked with her about having a really high "CQ" (couch quotient).

But who was she?

From what I could gather, she was not the owner, nor the store manager.

And while I could write she was 'just' a sales lady, that would not really be fair.

She was fair beyond all three of the above.

She was a leader. A technician. A furniture specialist.

And truly great asset to the company.

To use a Robin Sharma style phrase, the care she put into her work was similar to how Van Gogh painted.

Admirable.

Thank-you, Pat, from Oz Furniture Design, Essendon.

Keep leading.

P.s you might think this is a little over the top...but this is the behaviour that will move you forward in life.

Use a modification of the above and use every opportunity you can to lead....!

Last Hour, Last Day.

If you got a phone call right now as you read this, and were told you have exactly 1 hour to live, what is the very first thought that comes to your head? Who would you call? Who would you forgive? Who would you tell you loved them? What regrets would you have?

There is one immediate answer that came straight to you.

And now you know what you need to do.

Stop holding on to your ego or stubborn nature and have the guts to go first.

Time to step up and make your own call.

Be bold.

Lead the way and walk the path of greatness.

Talk to you later in the week. Bye

We Are All Human.

As I sit here with my morning coffee, I cannot help by notice a man who is sitting around 6 meters from me. He sits, with a young woman who looks as though she may be his daughter.

Laughing, conversion, sharing wisdom, eating breakfast, sipping coffee.

Just like me (minus the company).

And just like you might have over the weekend.

It is former Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott.

I also cannot help but think just 12 months ago this man was probably the most hated person in our country.

Yet, in reality, very few people actually know him.

They judge mostly based on uneducated biased decisions placed upon them via the media. Those with agendas focused on attention and advertising dollars.

Campaigns designed to keep you watching their station, to increase viewers for their sponsors.

People seem to think he just fell into the role of becoming Prime Minister.

Yet another ‘overnight success’. They disregard the years and years of campaigning, work for local council and attendance to various board meetings, showing up at fundraising events, charity dinners and trips away, both domestic and international. 7am breakfasts and countless lunches with people who are trying to tear him down.

You may think this is ‘great’ and how lucky he is to be in this position.

Yet is he?

He receives death threats, gets spat on, is talked negatively about on the grandest scale, is back stabbed (in his own office) and slandered just to name a few.

He spends countless days and months away from his family.

His children.

His wife.

I am not defending or promoting his work in office.  In fact, I am politically neutral.

Nor am I disputing the fact he ‘chose’ this life.

I am merely highlighting the fact this man is a human.

Two arms, two legs, a heart, a brain, a family, and a work ethic not many can fathom.

Stop seeing the politician, start seeing the person.

Bye.

You Don't Need Permission

Most people sit back and wait for permission to be great. They wait for the right time, the right people, the right opportunity, the right finances, the right everything before pursuing their goals.

They wait for all the ducks to be in a row.

Conditioned to stay small by closed minded thinkers to 'stay in line'. To be mediocre and not disrupt the norm.

That is until someone awakens them and asks exactly what are they waiting for...?

The thing about humans is we are extremely creative. Commit to what you want first, then figure it out. You will find a way.

Richard Branson did... Elon Musk did... Mark Zuckerberg did... My good friend, Harry Korras did... I did... and you can too.

So my question for you today, is what are you waiting for?

Why not you? Why not now?

Nothing is stopping you.

Begin today to walk the path of greatness you know you deserve.

Lots of love, Have the best weekend ever!

Your Energy Defines You

The only true currency in this world is energy. Every time you have a conversation, share some advice, have a meeting, visit a friend, go to a party, attend a PT session or any other interaction in your life, you bring with you an energy.

This is either negative or positive.

Take for example the following: How do you feel when you go to a cafe and get excellent service. The waiter(ess) is smiling, having a laugh and provides you with a great experience?

Then you go to another cafe, where you have to wait 15 minutes to be served, the conversation is cold and transactional, and you barely get a half smile when you reluctantly hand over you money?

Which would result in a better, more memorable experience?

Which would help you leave that restaurant feeling upbeat, jovial and ready to repeat your business with them?

Yet so many people are unaware of their own energy. They expect (most of the time unconsciously) everyone else to 'bring' the energy.

So how are you showing up? Are you taking more than you are giving? Talking more than you are listening? Offering little in return?

Or on the opposite spectrum, Are you giving more than you are receiving in return? Being used as an emotional Kleenex? Having to babysit or carry someone else that isn't truly grateful for your energy?

Maybe it's time you started to become a bit more selective of who you spend your time with.

I hope this helps.

Stay Great. Love ya. Bye.

Coincidence? I think not.

Think back to a time where you made a decision to go all in with something. To fully commit and decide exactly what YOU wanted.

Maybe it was competing in something? Buying a new car? Quitting your job and finding a new one? Starting your own business?

Now look at all of those 'random' opportunities that seemed to have shown up and helped you fulfil that exact goal?

People who could help suddenly appeared, money making opportunities to help fund it were discovered, books and other helpful resources jumped out at you...

Now...did they just 'happen' to show up?

Or, were they always there?

The people you met, the dream job you landed, the award you won, the customers you sold to...

.....

The truth is, it was all there.

It all existed well and truly before your decision to commit, it's just that you were just unaware of them.

It wasn't until you 'woke' up that you could see them.

Now taking this logic, we can conclude that once awoken to the fact that every outcome we experience, is one we created within our own reality.

Everything around you, was created by you, for you.

Even this status. You created it. You knew you needed to read it and therefore, just like everything else to help you on your path it 'appeared'.

Now, take this information, decide exactly what it is you want, and go after it....

Watch and marvel at the greatness that will appear in front of you.

The 'Secret' of Social Media Impact.

Sometimes people ask me how to increase their reach on social media. How to get more 'likes' or increase their reach to get in front of more people.

The truth is - I cannot give you a simple formula, 4 step system or growth hacking framework.

Because I don't have one.

I don't claim to be a guru and I'm sure there are 1000 things I could do to 'optimise' my own reach.

But here is what I do know.

Social media gives you an incredible opportunity to share.

Whether that be your photos, your experiences, your knowledge, your work or your creative pursuits.

You literally have the power to change, impact and inspire millions of people around the world.

Yet most misuse this power.

They complain and moan about a trivial event in their lives.

Or they post the exact same photo of THEMSELVES day after day hoping to get more likes than the day before.

They constantly refresh their feeds hoping for that little number to show up on the globe to fill their validation tanks.

The higher the number the more important they feel.

So if I can share one thing with you, with the greatest respect, is to stop using social as a vanity tool, and start using this amazing resource to help others.

To reduce the amount of times you speak about yourself.

To get out of the land of "I".

To stop yourself before posting and think: "will this be of benefit to someone else?"

When you can adopt this mindset (which I know you can, because I've done it) you will truly see the magic that is contained within this tool we call social media.

Give it a shot.

Out.

Producers vs Consumers

There are two types of people out there. Consumers and Producers.

Consumers are always on the lookout for the latest books, listen to all the podcasts, read all the information and are never ‘satisfied’.

Producers do the same in that they are always learning, but they also understand there is a time for production….and that time is NOW.

You see, the biggest growth comes not from ingesting and hoarding information for a rainy day, the biggest growth comes from getting out there, trying new things and innovating in the marketplace.

To not just learn something new...but to learn it with the intention to share it.

So this week commit to producing more than you consume.

If you listen to a podcast, put up a summary for your clients or facebook friends to see. If you read a book, try and pick out a chapter or exercise from within to share with someone who could use it. Write that blog, craft that email, post that motivating picture…

Just get it out there.

The best producers feel the fear of critique...but do it anyway.

Get started and get creative.

Have the best week.
