On this weeks episode, we have our first world record holder on the line, Travis Mash of mashelite.com. Travis was a really cool and down to earth guy. He responded to my invite to come on the show immedietly and within 3 days we were on the line. He has a ton of knowledge regarding Power lifting and Olympic lifting and has a really interesting past.
Within the interview he reveals the biggest piece of advice that he can give new personal trainers is to pick a niche and learn all about it. Don't try and be good everything.
I think this is a perfect piece of advice and can really relate to it myself when I was trying to do too many things that weren't at all related. Trust me, you will burnout/most likely fail if you're not focusing on a handful of related projects at a time.
I also recommend jumping on the Mash Elite Performance newsletter where Jon North will be giving away all of his programming on his way towards the 2016 Olympics. Check it out here: MashElite.com
I also grabbed a short bio of Travis from his website which you can read below:
"Travis Mash has been strength training for over 21 years and has been working with athletes on their strength, speed, and athletic performance for over 15 years.
Travis has worked with athletes and non-athletes of all levels from NFL and Olympic hopefuls, to 7-year-olds just starting out, to a 70-year-old senior seeking increased mobility.
Travis is a published author for several strength and conditioning journals and continues to work with several colleges such as University of North Carolina, Wake Forest University, Appalachian State University, and Wofford University.
Travis is a current world champion in powerlifting and has held the all-time pound-for-pound world record. He was also an Olympic hopeful in weightlifting and was recruited for the U.S. men’s bobsled team. Having been a world champion, Travis is able to share his champion mentality with his athletes and non-athletes alike."
Hopefully you can find value in Travis' interview and as always feel free to ask me any questions you need on my Contact Page. Apologies for a slightly shorter show than normal. We will be back into the full swing of things next week and rocking it with a new guest!
